Why this matters
Solum Legacy is built to help families and communities preserve their stories, journals, and biographies for generations. This policy explains how we handle your information, who controls it, and how you can make choices about it.
What we collect
- Things you upload: journals, photos, audio, video.
- Details about those items: dates, tags, emotional markers.
- Account basics: name, email, login.
- Location and technical info like IP address.
- Life markers: date of birth, and (when applicable) date of death.
Who owns the data
- You do. The ancestor who subscribes always owns their data.
- Family accounts: One family admin is named, and they own the family vault.
- Community vaults: If a town or organization has a vault, that organization owns it.
- Solum Legacy: We safeguard the data, but we never own it.
Where it’s stored
- Data is kept with industry‑standard cloud providers (currently AWS and Azure).
- Some structured artifacts may live in Notion.
- Everything is encrypted when it moves (SSL/TLS) and when it’s stored (AES‑256).
How sharing works
- Data only leaves your vault if you choose to share it.
- You can export to Word, PDF, CSV, Notion, Teams, or email.
- Curators or executors only see what you allow.
- Current integrations: Zapier, OpenAI, Teams. Future connections (like Ancestry) will only happen with your consent.
- You can share just the Ledger, just the Journal, or only the Biography if you prefer.
- We never sell your data.
Your controls
- Right now you manage data through Notion or Atlas (Teams).
- In the future, you’ll have a custom dashboard and chat interface.
- You can delete any artifact, revoke curator access, or export your biography at any time.
- Every action is logged for transparency.
Security
- MVP protections: SSL/TLS, MFA for ChatGPT and Notion.
- Future protections: social login and mandatory 2FA.
- Encryption at rest and in transit.
- The shield emblem is our trust badge — it shows when protections are active.
Community reserve
- 10% civic ownership is financial only. It doesn’t affect privacy or data control.
- Founding towns: Dunlap, TN and Belpre, OH. Their subscriptions are gifted.
- No usage metrics are shared with towns.
Children & families
- You must be 18+ to create an ancestor account.
- Minors can contribute under family accounts, but only if invited by a parent/guardian through the dashboard.
- Parents control everything minors add — edit, delete, and read.
Retention
- By default, your data is kept forever.
- You can delete or export at any time.
- All retention and deletion events are logged.
- Families aren’t penalized if payments stop — continuity is preserved.
After passing
Updates
- We may update this policy as technology and governance evolve.
- Changes will be logged and communicated through the dashboard.
- Your sovereignty over your data will always remain.
Closing
Your stories belong to you. Solum Legacy is here to protect them, not to own them. Families and communities hold the keys; we provide the vault. Every journal, ledger, and biography is preserved with dignity, in perpetuity.
Would you like me to also prepare a short “family FAQ” version (Q&A style: “Can I delete my journal?” “Who sees my biography?”) so it’s even easier for everyday users to understand?
